Winter trees

First attempt at collagraph printmaking. The printing plate is made of card, which I then cut with a stanley knife and ripped to make the tree trunks. The foreground is a collage of ripped bits of card and scrunched up masking tape. Then I inked up the plate and this was the result. Now I want to do more!

    A couple of days ago I finally picked up a brush and am coating a wonderful seed pod/rattle with Modge Podge for a little collage-like gift for a friend.

    Yippee to hands-on art. 🙂

  2. I am just happy to stick with my seed pods for now, Sarah, but I really love this, and I love hearing about how you did it. I haven’t done any printmaking in decades, but it is one of my favorite mediums. I think maybe because each one is different (depending on the type of print) and often a happy surprise.

    This one must have been a delightful surprise!

    1. It was a surprise, Riba, I had no idea it would turn out so well. The foreground pieces kept coming unstuck while I was putting the ink on them, and the first print I did had small bits of foreground stuck to it! So I pulled off the loose bits and the second print worked ok. It’s like magic!

      1. Yes! That must be why I love printmaking so much. (Even potato prints!) The unknown and the magic of them. Like waiting for a photograph in the bath and watching th image appear. 🙂
